The X390 is a VERY nice machine!!

I would have rated 4-3/4 stars if possible because of one small complaint. Power steering, cruise control, gas gauge, and an improved seat and ride......small things that go a long way to the rider's comfort. Between my hubs and me, we do have a difference of opinion on the "reverse" option. It is now located on the left side of the machine. Our old one is on the right, Being hubs is left-handed, he prefers the left side reverse. I, however, prefer the right. I have to really concentrate so that I don't kill the mower deck when using this new machine. The power steering, however, is absolutely awesome and more than makes up for the reverse location. This machine turns so tight that it's almost like having a zerio-radius machine. No more sore ribs for this woman after mowing 2 acres of lawn!!! We're hoping the ignition switch/key loosen up a bit. They are quite stiff and somewhat awkwardly located. There's not much room for a man's large hand to grip the key, especially if he's got hand problems to begin with. This is our 4th John Deere and we won't buy anything else.

Works best on flat surfaces

I bought the lawn tractor a month ago. Been disappointed. It does not start most of the time. Have to try several times especially if the engine has been sitting for a long time. Also, there is some oil on the front deck. I have reached out to the dealer via email and phone calls without response. It works great on a flat surface if you can get it to start. It does not work well even on minor hills. It tends to get stuck dry patchy hill area and have had to drive in reverse to get tractor out.

Great tractor, power steering absolutely makes it. Would like to give the combination 5 stars, but the old 44” piranha deck on my previous LX178 gave a more uniform cut.
